09/11/2010 Radio Quiz Recording + Reflection

Today was THE DAY!

Today we went in to record our radio quiz show which actually went pretty well.  Even though yesterday we had a problem with the sound we managed today to get it done perfectly of course not from the first go but you know what they say third time is the lucky time.  The first take to be honest was my fault as I was in charge of the desk and I forgot to raise the volume for the guests microphones when they were talking,  However, luckily it was only the first two minutes so it was not a problem after that everything started to go smoothly.

The roles were met to the best of the members knowledge, and it was good fun as this was something new and interesting.  There wasn’t really any negative points for today except for one of our contestants failed to show up and we did not have a back up contestant which we have all learned to have it especially since we will be starting TV soon.

The winner of our radio quiz show was Beatrice and she won a shopping spree at TopShop worth of £8.00 so congratulations to our lucky winner.

Reflection on meeting 08/11/2010

Today the group and I booked out the radio studio at 4:00pm to get some practice before the final recording.  We have decided to choose Rosie to be the presenter for our show as she sounded the best on the microphone and seemed more comfortable.

Everything went great today Rosie, Jaz and me practised on the computer trying to set everything up and imported sound clips which Rosie came up with.  After we finished playing about with everything and was happy and got everything working correctly we then did a practice record of our quiz it all went smoothly however, the down fall to this was the fact that the volume was too low and you could not hear anything.  We did try to look for Paul but we could not find him so we tried to fix the issue ourselves but couldn’t so we are hoping tomorrow everything goes smoothly and perfectly.

We are excited and of course nervous but it is the first time we create our own radio show so it is quite fun.  We have learned a lot but I guess the one thing we agree on is being organised and by that I mean knowing how to fix any technical difficulties we may come up against but other than that I am pleased with my group as everyone has done their part and nothing has been a hassle.

Here are images I took today during our radio time.

Radio Quiz

Our group is called the Fashionistas and our quiz is going to consist of –

Introduction – where the presenter will greet the listeners, then go on to talk about the quiz and explain each round.

Round 1 how many beeps? The audience have to guess how many beeps they hear from the audio that gets played.

Round 2 Finish the quote- Depending on the quote some can either finish off the quote or when being told the quote they need to give the name of who said that quote,

Round 3 and the final round – The audience must call out what ever amount of money we mention and it’s their luck if they get £5 or £20.  Which ever contestant wins they will recieve the cash prize of how ever much money they banked and get to go on a shopping spree to TopShop with a gift card that we would be giving out.

So as you can see our quiz is quite simple but fun and mind challenging which is great.  It starts out with three contestants then one with the less amount of points in round 1 will be disqualified whereas the other two will go through to round 2 and from there again the contestant with the least amount of point will be disqualified and the one remaining will be the winner.

Final script copy

Here is the official script.

Hello and welcome to THE FASHIONISTA SHOW!
The show where you need to know your Primark from you Prada
Your  from Clarks your Carvela
and most importantly you need to have passion for fashion!

Today we have three lovely LOVELY contestants …
We have [ ] from [ ] hi [ ]
We have [ ] from [ ] hi [ ]
We have [ ] from [ ] hi [ ]

So lets get started, we have three EXTREMELY difficult rounds for you lovely ladies to claw your fake nails through, are you ready?

I said are you ready {wanting a louder response}?

OK, better. this first round is called: ‘Guess the Beeps’ you need to get through this initial round to be in with a chance to win some cash to spend on some very luxurious  high class clothes.
well okay they’re Topshop vouchers, but what do you expect? we’re all students here.

In this round a certain amount of beeps will be played, varying in length. you will have a guess at how MANY you think there was. You will all get a guess and the two of you with the closest answers to the correct answer will go through to the next round. shout your name to answer first.

so here we go … [plays beep recording]

and [ ] what is your guess?
and [ ] ?
and [ ] ?

and we have a clear loserrrrrr.
SEE YOU LATER [ ]!
no seriously well done, but you are the first to go, bye!

Now the second round has the ever so mysterious name of  ‘Finish the fashion quote’.
i wonder what this could be about?

Basically I’m gonna start a famous quote and  YOU have to finish it to go through to the next round.

The first person to finish the quote goes through to the next round.
again shout your name in order to answer.

If you’re both too silly and neither know what i’m on about i will move onto another quote.

got it? brilliant.

[quote game]

sorry [ ] so close yet so far.
on the other hand [ ] you are in the final!

Now final round is called ‘Beat the Bomb’.

Its game of chicken, and also greed.
Random amount’s of money will be called out in a variety of amounts, NOT in an ascending or descending order.
that means that it will not go straight up and or straight down for you silly people

for example …… 1p, £4, 58p, £1, £8, 90p…… get the idea?

At any point after an amount has been said the contest can shout ‘stop the game’
[ ] let me hear you shout stop the game

so if you do that you will receive the amount of money that has just been called out.

However, you didn’t think we’d make it that easy did you?

whilst the number are being called out, a bomb is ticking away. no one knows how long before the bomb explodes. if the bomb explodes before you have stopped the game and taken the money, you are out and will go home with nothing.

The object is to stop the game before the bomb explodes and take an amount of money.

if you are Greedy and hang on for large amounts of money you risk getting knocked out with nothing,

or if you are ‘chicken’ you will not get the highest amounts of money.

understand my little fashionista??

lets play beat the bomb!

[Bomb recording]

[either wins or loses!]

how do you feel?
and that’s all we have time for today! see you again soon!
thanks for listening to the Fashionista Show!

Meeting with Paul and Shelly !

During our workshop session today Shelly and Paul were helping the group and me as we had good ideas but had no ‘hook’ for our quiz nor did we have a name.  We needed a more direct target audience with a reason for anyone to listen in on our radio quiz show, we needed to draw them in.

So after our long discussion we decided our target audience will be individuals between 16-25, with a gender bias of female.  We then needed a general theme that would go smoothly with our quiz so we decided since the show is bias female we will make it about fashion.  Of course our second round became of finishing fashion quotes and our final round the cash prize is towards a shopping spree at TopShop worth £20.

Since we now have a hook which was going to be fashion we had to think of a name for our show and we were all mind blocked luckily the name Fashionista hit me and when I presented that name Shelly and the group loved it.  Now it is called The Fashionista Show which works perfectly with our quiz show it all makes sense now.

Unfortunately poor Rosie has to change the script.

First draft of script

Below is a copy of the script which Rosie wrote.  This was before Shelly advised us to base our quiz around something and create our group name which we found hard since our radio quiz show was all over the place.

We do not have our contestants names yet so [ ] signals where there names will be.
Here is the first draft of the script that i have written myself:

Hello and welcome to [ ] !
We have three lovely LOVELY contestants here today…
We have [ ] from [ ] hi [ ]
We have [ ] from [ ] hi [ ]
We have [ ] from [ ] hi [ ]

So lets get started, we have three EXTREMELY difficult rounds for you guys to claw your way through, are you ready?

I said are you ready {wanting a louder response}?

OK, better. this first round is called: ‘Guess the Beeps’.
In this round a certain amount of beeps will be played, varying in length and pitch and pace. you will have a guess at how MANY you think there was. You will all get a guess and the two of you with the closest answers to the correct answer will go through to the next round. simple enough hey?
so here we go … [plays beep recording]

and [ ] what is your guess?
and [ ] ?
and [ ] ?

and we have a clear loserrrrrr.
SEE YOU LATER [ ]!
no seriously well done, but you are the first to go, bye!

Now the second round has the ever so mysterious name of  ‘Finish the quote’.
i wonder what this could be about?

Basically I’m gonna start a famous quote from either TV, music, film or maybe even just a celebrity. & no, not one off of big brother,  it’ll be a REAL celebrity.
YOU have to finish it to go through to the next round.

Now each of you need a buzzer word/ noise thingy-thing!
who wants woof? and who wants moo?

I must tell you its very important that if you forget to say your ‘buzzer’ noise  the quote becomes null and we will start another one.

If you’re both to silly and neither know what i’m on about i will also move onto another quote.

got it? brilliant.

[quote game]

sorry [ ] so close yet so far.
on the other hand [ ] you are in the final!

Now final round is called ‘Random Money’.

Its game of chicken, and also greed.
Random amount’s of money will be called out in a variety of amounts, NOT in an ascending or descending order.
that means up and down for you silly people

for example …… £12 £100 £104 £72 £5 £80 …… etc

At any point after an amount has been said the contest can shout ‘stop the game’
[ ] let me hear you shout stop the game

so if you do that you will receive the amount of money that has just been called out.

However, you didn’t think we’d make it that easy did you?

after a certain amount of time not known by me or you,  it could be long or short, a bang will signify that you are out of the game.

The object is to stop the game before the bang and take an amount of money.

if you are Greedy and hang on for large amounts of money you risk getting knocked out with nothing,

or if you are ‘chicken’ you will not get the highest amounts of money.

comprende?

lets play RANDOM MONEYYYYY!

[wrap up the show whether they win or loose and thank todays guests!]

Quiz show ideas

When the group met we began to discuss different ideas for our radio quiz show and we decided to have an introduction and then three rounds of different games.  We had guess the beeps, finish the quote and prize money.

The first round will consist of a number of beeps and each the three contestants will need to guess how many beeps there are.  The two contestants who reach to the closest number of beeps will go the the second round and the contestant with the least amount of beeps will be disqualified.

Then I came up with the idea of finish the quote.  At first we wanted to make this the difficult round where the two contestant would have to finish the quote and guess who said it but then we realised that this would take up too much time so we decided to miss out a word or two and have the contestants finish the quote.  Who ever wins more points will go to the final round.

Here are some fashion quotes I have found –

Fashions fade, style is eternal.
Yves Saint Laurent

Zest is the secret of all beauty. There is no beauty that is attractive without zest.
Christian Dior

I don’t do fashion, I am fashion.
Coco Chanel

A good model can advance fashion by ten years.
Yves Saint Laurent

I don’t design clothes. I design dreams.
Ralph Lauren

And many more

The final round is called Beat the bomb.  That is about a random sum of money will be shouted out and the final contestant has to rely on their luck.  Random sum of money will be called to the maximum of £20 worth of money that can only be spent at Top Shop.  Originally this idea was just going to be about money however, shelly advised us to base it around our show which is fashion.

No boundaries

When we were asked to think of ideas for our quiz show we kept on coming up with visual ideas and obviously they could not work as our quiz show is on the radio and everything has to be clear when speaking.  However, here are some of the ideas we came up with –

Shouting – you can’t talk normally you have to shout
Prize money – would be an amount like £150,000
Celebrities – if it was possible to call in celebrities to be our contestants then we would definitely call them in
Guess the celebrity speaking – phone in and guess

We decided to do this group activity because it got our ideas flowing and then after we started to have more realistic ideas, this is a really useful tool and I will use it in all my other projects because I’ve learned that your first idea usually isn’t your best idea.  As you can tell your first idea is not necessarily a winner that’s why brain storming is the KEY for anything and everything and after we began to think about our ideas something that would work for a radio show we began to get more and better ideas.  We did keep the idea of prize money except we made it a shopping spree cash prize worth £20 at TopShop and we based our show on Fashion.
